SUMMARY
2- Heart Rate measurement during a swimming session
This article will guide you on how to start, use, and get the best out of the Swimming feature with your TAG Heuer Connected watch. Before you begin, please note the following recommendations: avoid strong impacts on the watch, such as diving or plunging; use only water-resistant straps such as steel or rubber; and although it is not recommended to expose your watch to sea water, if you do, make sure to rinse it carefully with fresh water.

1- Launch a swimming session
a. To start a swimming session in a swimming pool, simply push the upper button to open the Sports app and select Swimming.
- You can also select Sports from the menu of the watch, then choose swimming in the list, and begin your activity.
b. Once you have selected swimming, you will be able to choose the size of your swimming pool. You will find standard sizes, but you will also be able to customize the size between 14 and 100 meters (between 46 and 328 feet).
c. When you start a swimming session, you will be asked to lock your screen with the Water lock mode. When you end your session, a message on your screen will ask you to turn off the Water lock mode.
Please note: The swimming tracking is only available on swimming pool (within the size range written above) and not supported on open water.
To launch a swimming session, simply follow the instructions in the tutorial below:
The TAG Heuer Sports app and Swimming are available for Calibre E3 (2020) and later generations.
2- Heart Rate measurement during a swimming session
Heart rate measurement is not available during a swimming session. Indeed, the movement of the water between the skin and the watch avoids having an accurate heart rate and TAG Heuer does not wish to display an incorrect or suggestive heart rate.
3- Can I dive into a pool with the watch?
The watch is water-resistant and suitable for swimming. However, it is not recommended to dive or plunge into a pool while wearing it, as the impact may damage the screen. The watch is designed for surface use and minimal underwater exposure.
4- The metrics displayed during a swimming session
Lap: a lap is a one way to the swimming pool. The watch uses the gyroscope of the watch and a dedicated algorithm to detect when you achieve a lap and when you start a new one in order to measure the distance of your session.
Interval: an interval is a succession of laps achieved by the swimmer without pause. When you press pause and then resume, it starts a new interval. Intervals are useful when you do different exercises during the same session (different strokes, for example). On the TAG Heuer mobile app, you can see your interval by clicking on the graph or in the dedicated interval table. A dedicated screen is available on the watch with on-going data from the interval by turning the crown up. The timer, the laps count, and the distance start from 0 each time you start a new interval.
Total distance: the total distance (kilometers or miles) you have swum during your session.
5- How the data are recorded ?
Laps data are captured through the accelerometer, which estimates the number of laps by detecting each time the swimmer touches the wall, triggering the accelerometer to record a lap.
Heart rates are not captured, as water does not allow measurement of heart rate through the skin.
Distance is computed using the number of laps detected and the saved pool length.
If you have downloaded and created a TAG Heuer account on your phone, you will be able to view more detailed data about your swimming sessions. Please select a session in the Sports tab to discover more information about the laps, intervals, strokes, total distance, and other metrics.
